1. UNDP - Enhancing Access to Justice Through Lao Bar Association Project:
The United Nations Development Programme in Lao PDR has been supporting the Lao Bar Association through "Strengthening Access to Justice Through Lao Bar Association Project". Under Phase-I of the project numerous activities have took place which have led to institutional strengthening of the Lao Bar Association and capacity of its members is being built which will enhance access to justice for the poor and disadvantaged citizens of the Lao PDR.
The Lao Bar Association intends to execute a larger version of the current Project. Phase-II of the Project is expected to start in early part of 2008 and will run for 3 years. Important components of the Phase-II Project are the legal aid programme, Bar Admission and Continuous Legal education Programs.
2. The Asia Foundation
The Lao Bar Association has been supported by The Asia Foundation on institutional and organizational issues. Beginning in January, 2008 the LBA and The Asia Foundation have launched a new initiative called "Legal Aid and Legal Education in Laos: Improving Access to Justice for all Lao Citizens". During this three year project the Lao Bar Association will open two new legal aid clinics in Oudomxai and Champassak, begin running a mobile legal aid clinic to travel around the country and train community members to provide basic legal information to the public through a Community Legal Educators program. The goal of this program is to increase access to legal information and services for the poor and vulnerable citizens of Lao PDR.
3. European Union:
The European Union has approved a Public Legal Education Project which is being implemented by the Lao Bar Association. Through this Project, the public will have a better understanding of legal rights, lawyers and the Lao Bar Association. The Project has started in early part of 2007.
4. AusAid:
AusAID, which is the Development Agency of the Australian Government, is providing support to the Lao Bar Association through its AYAD Volunteer Programme. This initiative is creating linkages between the Lao Bar Association and the AusAid and has also enabled Lao Bar Association to draw on legal skills of lawyers from Australia.
AusAid is also supporting the Lao Bar Association in its Public Legal Education Project.
5. Canadian Bar Association:
The Lao Bar Association is keen to develop links with Foreign Bar Associations and Law Societies. To this end, it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Bar Association, Canada which has been providing qualified Lawyers under its Internship Programme. Apart from providing highly skilled Canadian Lawyers under the Internship Programme, the Canadian Bar Association has also provided support to Lao Bar Association through trainings and workshops.
The Canadian Bar Association Interns when at the Lao Bar Association are involved in the development of training material and provide support Education and Training at the Lao Bar Association.
